Preparing for Your New Hot Tub!

In continuing our blog series about the most common reasons we hear from people on why they don't own a hot tub, #4 is a consistent one - fear of what it takes to prepare your space for a hot tub.  This one is actually not too bad if you know the right people to call - or in some cases, your hot tub retailer may even be able to take care of it for you!

The first step for a new hot tub is the location.  You will need to have a flat, level surface ready - approximately 10' x 10' will fit most standard hot tubs.  You can level your surface with paving stones or have a concrete pad poured, if you don't already have an existing surface ready.

A concrete slab is generally your best bet, and most cost effective.  Most slabs run $8 - $12 / square foot, so for the 10' x 10', you are looking at $800 - $1,200.  Ask your hot tub retailer if this is a service they provide - if it is, you can finance it in with your purchase if you opt to use financing.

You want to avoid placing your new hot tub directly on grass or leveled dirt - in most cases this will void the warranty - and it allows for moisture to find an easier path in and wreak havoc on the equipment.  Also, hot tubs are heavy - with a heavy rain, you may wind up with a sinking hot tub...

The second step to prepping your area for a new hot tub is the electrical connection.  If you are purchasing a 110v hot tub and you have a dedicated outlet near the location you want to place your hot tub, you are done and have nothing else to worry about!

Product Spotlight: Caldera Utopia Series Niagra

As previously noted, we write blogs about many hot tub topics - how much does a hot tub cost, hot tub maintenance, the benefits of owning a hot tub, but we haven't spent very much time looking at each particular model in depth, and the benefits of each one.  Our goal is to provide as much information as possible to you, so that you can research, shop, analyze, etc at your convenience.  Some prefer to come and see all the hot tubs in person and that's great.  For others, making a trip to the store, might not be ideal - hopefully, we can walk you through each model in an effort to help you narrow down your choices, and potentially save you a trip to the store if you prefer!

We are going to wrap up our review of the open seating hot tub models with the 'MOM' of the family - the Caldera Utopia Series Niagra. (I would consider the Salina to be the older sister and the Vanto to be the baby of the family.)  This hot tub is in Caldera's Utopia Series, which is their high end hot tub series.  The Niagra is an open seating concept, meaning it has no loungers.  This allows for more seating options and is very conducive to chatting and social interaction. If you look at the Niagra compared to the Salina and the Vanto, you will see similarities in the shell, but the Niagra is much 'beefier' so to speak - it offers a more thoughtful design with each seat, even more jets, including an increased variety of jets over the Salina, and top of the line features throughout, allowing for a more customized massage and overall hot tub experience.

Product Spotlight - Paradise Series Salina Hot Tub

As previously noted, I recently realized that we write blogs about many hot tub topics - how much they cost, how to maintain your hot tub, the benefits of owning a hot tub, but we haven't spent very much time looking at each particular model in depth, and the benefits of each one.

We are going to continue our in depth look with what I would refer to as the 'older sister' to the Vanto - the Caldera Salina.  This hot tub is in Caldera's Paradise Series, which is their mid level hot tub series.  The Salina is also an open seating concept, meaning it has no loungers.  This allows for more seating options and is very conducive to chatting and social interaction. If you look at the Salina compared to the Vanto, it is virtually the same hot tub shell - it offers more jets, increased variety of jets, and updated features throughout, allowing for a more customized massage and overall hot tub experience.

Product Spotlight - Vacanza Series Vanto Hot Tub

I recently realized that we write blogs about many hot tub topics - how much they cost, how to maintain your hot tub, the benefits of owning a hot tub, but we haven't spent very much time looking at each particular model in depth, and the benefits of each one.

We are going to start our in depth look with one of the most popular hot tubs we offer - the Caldera Vanto.  This hot tub is in Caldera's Vacanza Series, which is their base level hot tub series.  The Vanto is an open seating concept, meaning it has no loungers.  This allows for more seating options and is very conducive to chatting and social interaction.

Why Hot Tub Maintenance Should NEVER Be A Reason To Not Own A Hot Tub!

Continuing on our journey of reasons people give for not owning a hot tub, we are going to next explore the maintenance reason.  We hear it all the time - 'I don't need another thing on my to-do list', or 'it's just going to be a headache'.  Again, when we evaluate the potential upside of hot tub ownership - health and well-being benefits, and relationship & connection benefits, you have to ask, isn't a little bit of my time worth it?  But I think a bigger piece of this is people simply don't understand how easy hot tub maintenance has become, if you know the right questions to ask upfront when you are shopping for the perfect hot tub...

First and foremost, we are big advocates of ozone systems on hot tubs - they handle 99% of the sanitization of the water and require no effort from you. Zero.  The ozone system will run 24/7 on certain models, and as long as you ensure you see those little bubbles each time you open the cover, it is working and requires nothing else.  If your hot tub model doesn't have a re-circulation pump, the ozone will operate during the hot tub filter cycles - so you just want to ensure it is functioning during those times.

WHY WOULDN’T YOU OWN A HOT TUB? SURVEY SAYS …. COST!

I was recently accompanying our Caldera representative and they mentioned a situation that the Caldera dealer in North Dakota asks with everyone who comes in the store - they just ask the questions of their customers - 'You Why not take hot tub? ' This mentality certainly made me worry because in the industry, the question is very understandable for us - and our answer is simple - you will.
Benefits of hot tub ownership have proven more to us. But by looking at an outsider, this is a question that can really give different answers for each family. In the coming weeks, I think that probably the most popular answer to this question, and hopefully, if you still have valid reasons for being a hot tub owner, then you will help yourself to make a decision. 13 Reasons To Buy An Above Ground Pool ... in February

I was recently chatting with our Marketing Consultant about kicking off our 2018 above ground pool season starting February 1.  Her response was pretty typical - 'Why on earth would anyone buy an above ground pool now??'.  As I began explaining the benefits of purchasing an above ground pool during these final winter months, I could sense her wheels were turning.  It made me realize we probably haven't done a great job educating our consumers on the benefits of purchasing a new above ground pool during the coldest months of the year.  Since our main goal is to ensure our customers have all the information they need to make an informed buying decision, I decided to list out all the benefits I could think of related to buying a pool in the winter - 'give me one good reason' you say - I came up with 13!!

1.Pool retailers are receiving inventory for the upcoming summer season, which means you will have all models / sizes to choose from.

2.Be at the top of the install list for having your pool installed - before install crews are booked.

3.Your pool will be up and ready for any summer kick-off parties or end of school bashes!  (As long as you are ready to install as the weather starts warming up.)

4.You will have plenty of time to take care of the few pool owner items necessary once your pool is full of water - building your berm and back-filling if applicable.

5.There will be time to get grass growing around the pool again, or any landscaping you would like done, before swimmers are jumping in -this will help minimize dirt and mud from getting into the pool ... or worse, your house!

6.You will be able to fill your pool before any concern over potential water rations come into play.

7.Your pool water will have time to begin warming up as the seasons shift - so it will be a comfortable temperature when you are ready to start swimming.

   8. Your sand bottom will have plenty of time to compact and harden before you start using your pool, ensuring you don't have any issues with footprints. (Footprints cause problems when you are trying to vacuum your pool in the future.)

9.You won't have to contend with the rainy / stormy season delaying your install as long as you are ready to take delivery and install of your pool as those warm days roll around.

   10. If your pool retailer has any remaining 2017 pool inventory - you could wind up with a stellar deal on pricing.

   11. Don't want to build your own berm or backfill your new pool? If you have your pool installed early enough in the season, your installers may have the ability to come back and take care of those items for a nominal fee. Once you get into the summer season, most installers don't have availability in their schedule to come back and assist with dirt work.

   12. You will have plenty of time to dispose of any dirt from the pool excavation and leftover sand from the install before summer relaxing sets in.

13.Pool retailers are anxious to kick off the pool season - most will offer special incentives for early buyers that put at least half down on their pool purchase and are willing to take install of that pool as the weather allows.

Not all of these reasons will be applicable to every situation, but about 75% of them will impact new pool owners - and having the information is half the battle!  If you are looking to purchase a new above ground pool in 2018, definitely consider when the right time to buy is for you - and the benefits of making that purchase sooner rather than later!
